New Food Offerings at Casa Italia

I was invited recently to join an exclusive food tasting at Casa Italia Cafe at Bonifacio Global City. Casa Italia is casual dining, serving a wide array of handcrafted premium gelato, freshly made salads, pizzas, paninis, Italian beers and wine in all day.

We started with their pumpkin soup – a house specialty – which is a mixture of stewed squash and carrots sprinkled with crunchy bacon, basil and other spices. It just had the right amount of spices and sweetness from carrots and squash to make this creamy soup a great way to start the meal.

Next up was their Baked Chicken with Pomodoro Sauce. It is slow-baked chicken breast smothered with a simple and delicious sauce of crushed and juicy fresh tomatoes. I like that the recipe uses fresh tomatoes, because it gives naturally sweet highlights to the sauce.

My favorite was their Pork Belly with Hickory BBQ Sauce. The meat was slow-cooked to perfection, making it succulent and tender, and served with a generous glazing of hickory sauce, and rice and corn on the side.

They served us with their new flavors of gelato between courses to cleanse the palate in preparation for the next delicious offering. They first served their version of Pineapple Gelato, which was more a sorbet than a gelato because it was not as creamy as their non-fruit flavors. It was perfectly refreshing, just what I needed.

We also sampled their Guyabano flavored Gelato. It was slightly tart and tangy, with a sorbet-like consistency just like their Pineapple flavored gelato, which made it a refreshing dessert. These are both good options for those looking for a healthier, guilt-free dessert.

They also served a rather interesting and I would say unique gelato flavor: Roasted Rice Gelato. Its uniqueness caught my fancy, and it is sure to become a favorite for many people, especially those that love the taste of roasted rice coffee. Spice lovers might also want to try their Choco Chili Gelato, a regular chocolate gelato everybody loves, but with a hint of chili.

Summer Daydream (Apple Peach Cobbler) – a generous serving of cobbler with mango gelato topping
Midnight Surprise (Choco Lava Cake) – the flowing melted chocolate in the middle of a hot fudge cake will truly surprise your palate. Probably one of the best lava cakes in town.

I must really mention their Gelatonini, though, because it is truly amazing. It comes in two delicious flavors: Ham and Cheese, and Nutella.

The Ham & Cheese Gelatonini is Casa Italia’s bestselling formaggi gelato (ice cream cheese and cheddar cheese flavors) paired with a succulent portion of smoked ham, sandwiched between grilled buns of pandolce (Italian sweet bread).
